The BGE Lions roared into the final of the tournament, playing some excellent rugby and mauling the opposition into submission. However, in a fiercely fought final, we had to settle for 2nd place as the match proved to be one game too far.
The group stages started well as we brushed Braeside away winning 15-0. The second game was a titanic battle versus the old foe, BGR. We demonstrated every ounce of character, skill and determination to fight back from a try down to win the game 10-5. This was undoubtedly our best performance all year. The final group game was another comfortable win, 20-5 versus Nairobi Academy.
The semi-final was a much tighter affair than expected but a 15-10 win was enough to see the boys into the final. Unfortunately, the Lions were unable to recreate the intensity required to beat BGR for a second time and had to settle for the Runners’ up medals.
I am so proud of the boys’ achievements, not only today but all term. They have made so much progression and thoroughly deserved the reward of a medal.
Congratulations to all of the players involved.
